The Speedsocket Mirror Goggles from Speedo are a low profile racing goggle, ideal for indoor or outdoor swimming. As worn by Michael Phelps in Athens 2004.

Speedo produce a fantastic range of swimwear and swimming accesories including swimsuits, swimming goggles, kickboards, swimming fins and pullbouys plus much more.

About Speedo
Founded in Australia by Alexander MacRae, a 22-year-old Scottish immigrant who arrived in the country in 1910. The ‘SPEEDO’ company began when MacRae Hosiery manufacturers, established by Alexander in 1914, extended the manufacture of underwear to swimwear and became MacRae Knitting Mills.

This acceptance of swimwear and the introduction of the ‘Racerback’ costume meant it was time for a new company name. A staff competition was held and won by a Captain Parsonson who coined the slogan ‘Speed on in your Speedos’. The SPEEDO name was born in 1928.

Those of you who have been following the Speedo Fastskin Pro LZR Racer suit saga will be interested to learn that FINA (Fédération Internationale de Natation - International Federation of Swimming) are meeting with Speedo to discuss the materials used to create the suits.

Since they started to make an appearance on the world stage, world records have been repeatedly smashed in them and some swimmers are seeing this as an unfair advantage due to the suit cutting drag by roughly five percent and allowing the swimmer to maintain better buoyancy in the water.

Some nations are complaining that due to limited supply, price tag and sponsorship deals there isn’t a level playing field (or should that be pool?). Canada has only had about five suits delivered making it impossible for everyone to try them. Italy will not be able to wear the suit as they have a sponsorship contract with Arena while the Japanese have ties to Mizuno.

Swimming as a competitive sport has many rules as well as different techniques for the four strokes. The four strokes are the freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, and breaststroke. Each stroke has its own technique, but there are four points you should consider for any stroke.

First whenever you begin a stroke for swimming you need to analyze your leg kick, the timing, arm cycle, and breathing. The leg kick is meant to control the position of the body in the water no matter what stroke you are doing during an event. The arm cycle is generally going to be the propulsive force that moves you through the water. In other words the legs will give you the control over your body that you need to stay steady, while the arms will do much of the work to get you done the lane. It is important to time the strokes properly with the arm cycle and leg kicks to get your speed. If you are moving the arms and legs without synchronization you are not going to move very fast or have a smooth technique. The movement should not be wasted energy. The breathing is also very important in an effort for a more graceful movement so that it doesn’t disrupt your fluidity.

Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone knew of swimwear which offered tummy support. I have had 2 very big babies and my tummy is not what it used to be. I’d love to be able to wear something other than shorts and a t-shirt to go swimming this summer.
Nat

Hi Nat

This is a question that we get asked quite a lot. So we have put together a few points to keep in mind when buying your swimwear.

Avoid purchasing any swimwear with horizontal stripes that will make the tummy area look even larger. Look for vertical lines that give the appearance of a slimmer waistline.

Avoid buying a tankini. Many women believe because tankinis are longer than a regular bikini top it will cover the stomach; oh contraire. You will find that these tops began to rise exposing a hanging tummy.

So what should you be looking for I hear you ask?

To hide the belly bulge consider buying swimwear in dark colors or with a print to camouflage the tummy. There are also many swimsuits now that have tummy control, look for these and make sure they contain spandex or lycra.

As for brands to look out for we would advise everyone to take a look at the Magicsuit Studs halter mio.

To know if you are a classic pear shape then your hips will be wider than your shoulders, or you carry more of your weight around your hips, bum and thighs. In order to avoid swimwear faux pas then you need pick swimwear that flatters your figure and slim the bottom half while adding some volume to the top. This is easy to do with our tricks!

Avoid boy short bikini bottoms, as more fabric just highlights that there is more to cover; instead go for a high cut leg as this will make you leg look longer and leaner, and go for a regular cut across the bottom as this will be most flattering for a pear shape. Pairing a patterned or bright bikini top, with a darker or plain swimwear bottom is the best way to balance your proportions, as it boosts your bust and slims your thighs and bum beautifully. Wearing horizontal stripes on your top half is also a great way to look gorgeous in your swimwear.
